Planning/ Sketching:

I want to have two banners layered on each other with piping between them for my personal banner. The banner will be bright and colorful. I plan to paint the lettering on the fabric and use a floral printed fabric on the top layer. I plan to use a thick cloth on the back of both banners to make them thick. I would like to use silk or satin for a slight shine for the back and possibly the front panels. I plan to have gold trim on the front.

Final:

May The Petals You
Acrylic paint, Fringe, Satin
48" x  31"

Reflection Statement:
The sculpture  May The Petals You was inspired by my grandmother's garden and
childhood. My intent to visually communicate how I felt being in my grandmother's garden growing up was using fabrics that encapsulated these feelings of joy and warmth.

I wanted to focus on details within the banner because I wanted the viewer to become encapsulated. I decided to include fringe and tassels on the banner as well as paint flowers. I felt the project wasn't missing anything vital.

I want to keep exploring painting on satin fabrics. I would like to learn more about embroidery and how paint reacts with different fabrics. This piece allowed me to explore different mediums within textiles and stitching.
